Donna Smith, transplant recipient

Donna Smith has surely won the lottery of life. Donna was fortunate enough to receive a `temporary´ transplant of a liver while she was on the waiting list to receive the liver she has now. With the help of friends and friends of friends, Donna received the support and financial backing that allowed her to travel to eastern Canada for, not one, but two transplants. With the vast majority of Canadians not signing up to be donors, the chance to receive organs is a slim one. Many in need die waiting. For Donna Smith, there was success with her good luck; she continues to enjoy life with friends and family.

Jean helped to raise funds for Donna Smith's transplants through the Colin Gobeil Foundation; this is an organization that offsets expenses not covered by Medicare.  As of Feb.1, 2008 Donna celebrated her "10th" birthday, winning the lottery of life.
